LEGACY & PURPOSE

Your Business Advocates

OUR PURPOSE

The Black Business Association of Memphis (BBA) was founded in 1974 and is one of the oldest and largest trade associations of its kind in the Mid-South. BBA members all unite behind the goal of empowerment through entrepreneurship and improvement of business and growth opportunities for minority and women-owned businesses.

The BBA partners with multiple organizations throughout the community supporting the goals of economic equality.  We endeavor to be single-minded insomuch as we recognize the success of Black owned businesses within the City of Memphis directly reflects positively or negatively on our community’s overall health, happiness and quality of life.

MISSION & VISION

Our Mission is to improve the economic well-being of the Memphis region by developing successful entrepreneurs through education, advocacy and business development.

Our Vision: Memphis/Shelby County to become a “Full Opportunity Society”; A Dynamic and Diverse Epistemic Community:

Epistemic communities, people with a shared knowledge base on key issues, provide exactly the norms, standards and (place) identity that are the micro-foundations for linking equity and growth. Because there is genuine care for the other, partly because of the communicative processes inherent in such communities, economic and social actors look for, “Win-Win” opportunities rather than Darwinian competitive destruction. They also break down barriers so that the positive possibilities raised by our growing diversity get realized rather than dashed.

OUR GOALS

Advocacy

BBA’s advocacy goals are to operate in the best interest of all its stakeholders including its membership and community partners.  We achieve this goal by understanding the challenges of Black entrepreneurs — listening to our members during one-on-one communications, maintaining close connectivity to national thought leaders in the space of Black and minority business development and coordinating efforts with local, state and national governments where we seek to use all available resources to achieve optimal results.

Counseling
BBA highly values knowledge, education and training for the advancement of Black business. The BBA is an excellent resource for defining and accessing the tools you will need to be more effective and efficient.  We host and partners with various organizations to provide relevant and timely business related education resources.

Networking

Business networking gives our members and stakeholders professional connections, establishes trust, and lends business through new opportunities, increased knowledge, and the ever-so-valuable word-of-mouth advertising.  BBA utilizes its extensive networks in multiple areas to positively affect commerce on behalf of Black people.

We offer opportunities for our clients to know who’s who in Memphis as well as in their field of business. Our members are always in the know when it comes to seminars and other events that are important to advancing their business.
