COVID-19 RELIEF FUND

Black Business Association of Memphis is acting as fiscal agent to distribute funds received from the City of Memphis for residents of the City employed as Personal Care Professionals adversely effected due to COVID-19.

You are eligible if you are a City of Memphis resident and you work at any of these types of businesses:

  • Cosmetologists
  • Barbers
  • Nail Technicians
  • Massage Therapists
  • Hair Braiders
  • Personal Trainers
  • Make-up Artists
  • Aestheticians

We will be awarding individual, upto $1000 grants to eligible applicants. Grants will be awarded on a first come, first served basis. We will issue grants to applicants as long as funds last.

We will pay the grants through Venmo or PayPal. You can set up an account for Venmo here and for PayPal here. Please know you will have to ensure your Venmo/PayPal account is 100% set-up and finalized in order to receive funds through the platform. The number of grants will depend on the amount of money available.

Please note that, in order to receive a grant using the the City of Memphis CARES Act funds, you MUST live within Memphis city limits.


Please complete and submit the form below to be considered for the grant. Be sure to include scans or photos of the requested attachments. If you do not have these documents, please contact your employer.

All eligible applicants who are approved for the grant will receive a notification email and then a phone call from BBA Memphis President Mark Yates, to finalize your payment. Please be patient, as it takes time to issue grants to a large amount of recipients.

PS: One grant per individual. submissions of multiple applications will result in disqualification of eligibility. 

Pss: must-have requirements include:

1) proof of Memphis residency – preferably a Tennessee drivers’ license; and

2) state of Tennessee occupational license e.G. Barber’s license, cosmetology, manicurist… or schedule c, 1099 indicating work in personal care industry
